Hidden In Plain View

Released on Drive-thru Records

CD Review by Michael Giambra / Rockstarpix.TV

New Jersey is no longer simply known for sprouting acid-washed 80's bands and ageing iconic classic rockers like Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen. Hidden In Plain View is a DIY band from Stanhope, New Jersey with a faithful growing fan base that has been collected over their self-booked tours throughout the US and Europe.

Hidden In Plain View debut LP Life in Dreaming, on Indie giant Drive-Thru Records, is scheduled for a February 22nd, 2005 release. It follows an extremely well received self-produced EP which sold over 35,000 copies. On their debut LP they chose to have it helmed by Jim Wirt (Incubus, Something Corporate) and mixed by Josh Wilbur and their efforts have produced a sonically sound debut.

With song and lyric topics ranging from date-rape, suicide and NJ turnpike car wrecks, lead singer Joe Reo paints a dynamic lyrical backdrop for band mates: bassist Chris Amato, guitarists Rob Freeman, Mike Saffert and drummer Spencer Peterson. A good example is "Bleed for You", a chilling account of a date rape :

‘The cold concrete cuts against her back / and her spirit spills with blood onto the pavement/hands tied so tight behind her neck/ and a silence falls and everything changes'

Notes lead guitarist / lyricist Rob Freeman "Two friends of mine were rape victims, and seeing how much pain they were in I wanted to relieve them. It's one of the rawest things I ever wrote and when I played it for one of them, she had tears in her eyes, and she said "You nailed it."

"Ashes, Ashes" is a crushing account of what the band describes as moral suicide. "It is about being true to yourself", says Rob, "and not taking things for granted." Rockstarpix.TV will be bringing you the live video premier of 'Ashes, Ashes" and interview footage with the band.
